WAVS Board of Directors

BELLINGHAM, WA

The WAVS Board of Directors consists of a minimum of five and a maximum of nine members, ensuring balanced representation with at least one member from Eastern Washington and three from Western Washington. Each Board member serves a three-year term (unless otherwise specified in the WAVS Handbook), with terms running from July 1 to June 30. When a Board position becomes vacant at the end of a term, it is filled by a majority vote of all voting members present at the Annual Membership Meeting.

 

Leadership & Elections

Potential Board members are nominated by the membership before elections.

The association’s officers include:

  • President

  • 1st Vice President

  • 2nd Vice President 

  • Secretary

  • Treasurer

 

All officers, except for the Secretary and Treasurer, are members of the Board. The President and Vice Presidents are elected at the Annual Membership Meeting and serve terms as outlined in the WAVS Handbook. The Secretary and Treasurer are appointed by the President and confirmed by a majority vote of the Board.

Honorary Lifetime Members

The board of directors may confer, by majority vote, the status of Emeritus upon a member who has served eight or more years as a member of the Board or as an officer of the Association. President Emeritus shall be a non-voting advisory member of the board.

Subagents
Contracted Services

In accordance with Article 6.8 of the WAVS Bylaws, the Board of Directors may choose to engage “Contracted Services” in order to achieve the goals of the association. These contracted services are a temporary position that are reviewed annually to determine if the position will be extended.
Examples of contracted service positions are: Lobbyist, Executive Director, Convention Coordinator, Legal Counsel, etc. The Convention Coordinator position is defined under the policies for Committees in the WAVS Member Handbook. Expectations and scope of work for all other contracted services are outlined in their respective independent contractor agreements. Terms of representation from WAVS Legal Counsel are defined through separate signed attorney contracts.
The contracted services, if not a volunteer position, will be an independent contractor and any salary and reimbursements must be negotiated with the Board of Directors through the President and budgeted accordingly.
